Dhanushkodi sits at the very tip of the Rameswaram peninsula, where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean. Abandoned after a devastating cyclone in 1964, it's now one of South India's most striking day-trip destinations.
Getting There
Dhanushkodi is roughly 18 km from Rameswaram town. The last stretch of road runs along a narrow strip of sand with water visible on both sides — an experience in itself.
What to See
The ruined church and railway station are reminders of the town before the cyclone. Further ahead, the point where the two seas visibly meet is one of the most photographed spots in the region.
Best Time to Go
Early morning or late afternoon avoids the midday heat and gives the best light for photos. November to February is the most comfortable season to visit.
Good to Know
There are very limited food and water facilities on the way, so carry enough for the trip. A local vehicle familiar with the route makes the journey much smoother, especially on the sandy final stretch.
